FOND DU LAC, WI (WHBL/KFIZ) - Fond du Lac Police say they have found the person who caused them to heighten patrols around schools this week.

Assistant Police Chief Steve Klein says tips connected them to a 50 year old man who said he approached an 11-year-old girl as she was walking home from school last Wednesday and did have small talk with her.  However, he denied the claims made by the girl who said she was touched by a man.  “We have spoken with him, but at this point he denies ever making any physical contact with the girl.”

Police were looking for an African American man as their main person of interest, going so far as to make public a photo of him at a nearby Kwik Trip.  Klein says that man came to police to deny involvement in the incident.   “He did speak (that) he never had any contact with the young girl (and) that he was on his way to work.  We were able to verify that information.”

Police say their investigation into the incident continues.
