SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - For 12 days a Sheboygan man was missing from the Sheboygan County Detention Center after he was allowed to leave for a medical appointment.  He has returned, but only after Sheboygan Police fouind him at his home after he was accused of stealing a few items from an extended family member several days earlier.

Sheboygan County prosecutors charged 30 year old Christopher Wise this week with escape, theft, disorderly conduct, and obstructing an officer.

The criminal complaints against him state his ordeal began on December 28, when Wise was allowed to go to the Marsho Medical Center in Sheboygan for a medical appointment.  When the time came for him to return to the detention center, he did not.  When a sergeant called the center to ask about Wise, they said he had left.  This labeled him as a walk away.

The next time officials heard about Wise was January 5, but it was for an alleged crime.  Sheboygan Police were called to the 1900 block of South 17th Street to investigate a claim that someone had several items taken from their purse.

Officers found a Plymouth woman who said Wise, who she knows through a family marriage, came to her home the previous evening and asked to spend the night.  She agreed to it.

She reportedly said at one point that evening a bottle of prescription Percocet went missing.  She looked around the house but was not able to find it.  She started to think Wise took it, but when she asked him about it he denied taking it.

The next day the female took Wise back to his home on 17th Street, but when they were around Wildwood Cemetery she accused Wise of taking the prescription bottle out of his pants pocket, showed it to her, removed some of the Percocet and then dumped the rest onto a car seat.

This reportedly forced the female to stop and exit the vehicle, where she went to the door where Wise was sitting, and attempted to physically get the medication back.  She was unsuccessful, and Wise allegedly got the key and moved to the driver’s seat.  The female got back into the vehicle as Wise drove to his home.

Once there, Wise left the vehicle and went inside his home.  The female reportedly tried calling for Wise several times, but he would not answer.  That was when she contacted Sheboygan Police.  She added that her cell phone was taken from her.

Sheboygan Police would try to get Wise into custody on January 9.  An officer went to his home, and search did lead to his arrest after he was spotted in a closet of the basement hiding behind several large bins of holiday décor.  The officer added Wise did not want to talk to officer as he was transported to the police department headquarters.

Wise now faces up to 30 months in jail if found guilty of all four charges against him.
