SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A Sheboygan man will have to serve three years in a state prison for possessing child pornography.
43 year old Thomas Wirth was given the jail time and two years extended supervision last week by Judge Timothy Van Akkeren.
It comes after Van Akkeren found Wirth guilty of ten counts of possession of child pornography last month during a two day court trial. That also included finding him not eligible for a not guilty by mental disease/defect plea.
The criminal complaint against Wirth states a computer repairman found a program associated with child pornography on the hard drive of a computer Wirth brought in to be repaired. An investigation found ten images of underage children performing sexual acts.
When asked about the images, Wirth said he has downloaded child porn in the past, claiming it helps him heal from his own child abuse.
Wirth will also have to register as a sex offender for the next 15 years as part of his sentence.
