SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - There was an attempt to make a last minute change, but the 2016 Sheboygan County budget passed this week. County supervisors voted 20 to two for the over 128-million dollar budget Tuesday.
That includes a tax levy of over 48-point-three million dollars, an increase of just less than three percent from 2014, and the fourth straight year for any levy increase. The impact that will have on the county’s average mill rate is an increase of 13 cents to 5.77 per thousand for equalized property value.
Prior to the vote, supervisors Fay Uraynar and Jim Baumgart made an attempt to try to remove 235-thousand dollars in the budget to go towards the purchase of an armored rescue vehicle for the sheriff’s department, questioning its need.
Sheriff’s and county officials, along with some supervisors, said in response the vehicle would be a valued asset if a situation for its use arises, and part of the cost has been covered with a donation from local companies and businesses for one.
In the end, a vote to remove that funding was defeated three to 19.
