SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A proposal to privatize a portion of the Sheboygan Quarry is on the way to the city council.  The Public Works Committee and Marina, Parks and Forestry Board discussed the plan for about an hour last night and then approved an agreement with Commercial Recreation Specialists of Madison.  Public Works Committee Chairman Joe Heidemann said he expects the council to refer it to Committee of the Whole for more public input before final passage.  Under the plan the company would pay the city one dollar to operate the beach area providing various amusements such as inflatable rafts.  They would also charge a fee which has yet to be determined.  The area opposite the beach would still be available for open swimming at your own risk without a fee.  Most committee members felt it is a good way to improve the Quarry and hopefully increase attendance at no cost to the city.  Others felt the city should stay with last year's "swim at your own risk" setup which would be more famil-friendly without the fee and the restrictions.
