SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - We now know how many students are using vouchers to attend local private schools in Sheboygan County.  The Department of Public Instruction released unaudited numbers Tuesday regarding the state’s Parental Choice Program for the 2015-16 school year.

Thanks to the elimination of the program’s cap in the state budget, the number of schools in Sheboygan County receiving vouchers increased from five to nine.  A total of 160 students will receive over seven thousand dollars in state aid to attend the schools.

They account for more than 17-percent of the nine school’s total population, with individual schools ranging from nine to 35 percent.

DPI says the expansion of the program, which will cost over 18-million dollars this school year, will mean public school district will receive nearly 12 million dollars less in state aid.
