SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - For the second time in three days, Sheboygan firefighters dealt with a fire in the city.

Just after 12:45 p.m. Tuesday, the department got word of smoke coming from the basement of the home at 1906 Washington Avenue.

Battalion Chief Keith Risse says firefighters were there in two minutes and found several items had caught fire, creating a thick black smoke in the basement.  Crews were able to put out the small fire quickly, but the blaze and the smoke caused damage totaling around 55-hundred dollars.

The lone occupant of the home was able to get out safely, but was taken to Sheboygan Memorial Hospital as a precaution for smoke inhalation.

Risse says the cause of the fire was likely an electrical malfunction of an appliance.
