SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Temperatures will drop to where they should normally be later this week, and that can be a reminder that colder weather will be here soon.

Many of us will put on a coat to stay warm, but some do not have one available.  That is why the Salvation Army in Sheboygan is once again sponsoring a Coats for Kids campaign this year.

Corps Officer Daryl Mangeri tells WHBL News collections are underway in the area for new or gently used clean coats and will continue through October 22.  "Reinbold Novak (Funeral Home) has disseminated flyers all through the area, and their many drop locations.  So they will go around and collect from these drop boxes and deliver those coats directly to use in time for distribution day."

Also assisting in sponsoring the campaign is the Point radio station in Sheboygan.

Mangeri says the program is one of several that they start up once what they call the "summer slump" is over.  "It’s our traditional period when donations tend to wane because people have been taking family vacations, they’re saving up money to send their children back to school, and now with the changing of the seasons we are focusing on our Christmas programs."

The greatest need for coats is for infants, toddlers, and children ages 10 and younger.

Mangeri says the coats will be distributed on October 23 at their location in downtown Sheboygan.
