Sheboygan, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Police Department’s list of most wanted criminals still holds some familiar faces.

Captain James Veeser says officers continue to seek information on the whereabouts of Ger Chang, “Who is known to our community and is wanted by other jurisdictions.”

Chang, a Sheboygan resident at the time of the crimes,  is wanted by the Federal Bureau of Investigations for; unlawful flight to avoid prosecution - first degree reckless injury, first degree reckless endangerment, and possession of a firearm by a felon.

The charges stem from an altercation outside a bar in the Town of Menasha in August, 2011. Chang allegedly opened fire, wounding one person, before fleeing prosecution.

Albert Mendez is wanted by U.S Marshalls. Captain Veeser says, Mendez was a prior Sheboygan resident with ties to the community, "Thus we hope a family member may assist with notifying police (of his whereabouts).”  Mendez fled prosecution in 2013, as investigators sought to question him about a sexual assault case.

But, of all of those on the current list of most wanted felons, Captain Veeser says they are particularly interested in apprehending Juan Arenas who has  been on the list for an extended period of time. Arenas is wanted for the fatal hit and run that claimed the life of 12-year-old Ben Salm, in 2003. Salm was crossing  South Business Drive near Union Avenue when he was struck by Arenas, on January 6. Salm died the next day.

Veeser says  Arenas was from Mexico, and  it is believed that he fled to Mexico, and may have been apprehended for a crime in that country.

“We received a notification from a person from Mexico that they believed he had been apprehended for a homicide in their country, a news article was sent to us, we attempted to confirm this through the US federal government (by working with Mexico) but we have been unable to confirm this at this point.”

A number of media reports indicate that Arenas was arrested in Mexico in connection with a kidnap and murder case that occurred near Mexico City, in 2009.

Although these are all high profile cases, the captain makes it clear that all of the suspects are wanted by Police for various crimes, and there is no shortage of eagerness to apprehend any of them.

Police are hoping that residents will take another look at the most wanted list, and provide tips about the suspects being sought.
