SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Friday’s severe thunderstorm in Sheboygan County will not symbolize a cool down for the area. Temperatures are forecast to be around 90 both days this weekend, and dew points in the 60s will make it feel even warmer.
That could make things tough for local residents with outdoor activities, and the thousands expected to be out at Whistling Straits for the PGA Championship. A number of people needed to seek treatment for heat-related illnesses on site, and at least six people were taken to area hospitals.
Meteorologist Steve Hentz with the National Weather Service office in Sullivan tells WHBL News anyone going out to watch golf needs to be prepared to battle the heat. "What they need to do is to make sure they have plenty of water and at least a pretty decent hat to shield themselves from the sun, and if they start feeling the effects of the heat to seek the cooling shelters.”
In response to the ongoing heat, PGA officials have announced spectators will be allowed to bring in unopened bottles of water to the grounds, as long as they would normally fit in a bag no bigger than ten inches by ten inches by ten inches. Also, additional water stations and staff will be set up throughout the course to help people handle the hot weather.
