Sheboygan County, WI (WHBL) – At least six people were hospitalized for heat related illnesses at Whistling Straits. Thousands of people from around the world have gathered for the PGA Championship round, which runs through Sunday.
At least six people were overcome by heat when a reception tent became over crowded. Some of the victims were transported to St Nicholas Hospital, and others were transported to Memorial Hospital.
The National Weather service tells WHBL News that the conditions Thursday in Sheboygan created the perfect recipe for heat related problems. Meteorologist Steve Hentz says there are no heat advisories in effect, but temperatures reaching the upper eighties , with heat indices in the lower nineties could still cause serious complications – especially in overcrowded spaces, or in direct sunlight.
Hentz says the heat is here to stay through at least the weekend, and advises PGA spectators to plan in advance on cooling methods.
