Sheboygan, WI (WHBL) – An accident reconstruction investigation team worked well into the night to determine what may have caused a fatal crash Saturday afternoon, at the intersection of Business Drive and Washington Avenue.
The roadway remained closed from Wilson Avenue to South Washington Avenue until at least 11pm, although Police say the investigation is far from complete at this time. Lieutenant Doug Teunissen of the Sheboygan Police Department says it could be weeks before the full investigation is wrapped up.
A 19 year old woman died following a collision with a semi-truck that originated from Maywood Illinois. The truck is owned by T.H. Ryan Cartage Company.
Witnesses allege that the accident happened when the Chevy Cruze being driven by the victim ran a red light at the intersection. However, Sheboygan Police do not confirm this account, and say that its too early to tell what transpired.
It is also undetermined whether or not alcohol played a role in the crash.
Sheboygan Police have not yet released the name of the victim, but family members identify her via Facebook postings as Haley Fuentes.
Haley’s father posted, “I want everyone to know God called another Angel Home today. Our Daughter Haley was in a bad accident, and we will miss her so very much! We don’t know why God took her, but we’re glad we had her for 19 years.”
A Facebook page belonging to Haley Fuentes says that she graduatuated from North High School in 2014.
An outpouring of support online was immediate. Those who know Halely call her a hard worker, and a very nice person. Most of the posters share personal accounts of positive interactions with Haley, others who did not know Haley personally express remorse, and sympathy.
Police are expected to release more information about the accident, and possibly the truck driver at a later date.
