Tough to Get Around

Sheboygan, WI (WHBL) - Road construction projects are picking up in Sheboygan proper, and some of the worksites can be quite confusing to navigate.

At South Taylor Drive, between Washington Avenue and Germaine, the four lane highway has been reduced to two lanes as work crews install a new water main. The two existing lanes travel in each direction.

The heavily traveled stretch of highway which is just off of Interstate 43 can quickly become tricky to navigate during peak travel times - despite the presence of strategically placed stop signs. That’s because, in addition to sharing the travel lanes, drivers traveling through that stretch have to watch for traffic pulling out of the Mobil Gas station, McDonald’s restaurant, and AmericInn – all of which attract heavy traffic throughout the day.

Sheboygan Police Captain Steve Cobb warns drivers to pay close attention in work zones.  "My advice to citizens is to be aware of where construction is, follow the correct detours that have been laid out, and when you enter construction zones slow down and be very cognizant of lane changes and different temporary signage that is set up to move people through those zones,"Cobb says.

As of Thursday, there have been no accidents reported to Sheboygan Police in this work zone.  The project should wrap up by September 12th.
