SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - If you plan on celebrating the Fourth of July in Sheboygan, the Sheboygan Police Department is asking you to follow certain rules that will be in place.

It all begins with the annual Sheboygan Fourth of July Parade, starting at 9 a.m. Saturday in the downtown area.  A reminder that spot saving along the parade route cannot begin until 5 a.m. Saturday, unless you plan to stay with your items once you get to your desired spot before that time.

After the parade, the biggest restrictions will be on traffic.  Broughton Drive will not allow traffic and parking between Michigan Avenue and Wisconsin Avenue.  Also, Pennsylvania Avenue between 8th and 14th Street will not allow parking on the street’s northside so that traffic can flow better after the fireworks show.

As for ttraffic after the fireworks, police will restrict traffic flow as the expected thousands will leave the lakefront to head home.  The main locations to be aware of is the Rotary roundabout at South 8th Street and Indiana Avenue, and Pennsylvania Avenue.  The best advice, head east as far as you can before you try to turn north or south.

The department will encourage biking to activities in Sheboygan with the set-up of bike corrals at Deland Park and South Pier.  Bikes must be picked up by 11 p.m. or else the police will impound them.  Also, Shoreline Metro will run its “The Square” route along the Downtown, South Pier, and Riverfront areas throughout the day.  The cost is one dollar for the day.

Other city policies that will be in place for the fourth include:

-Alcohol possession and consumption is prohibited on any beach area in the city.

-Pets are not allowed at city parks and beaches unless posted.

-Bonfires are allowed along the Lake Michigan shoreline, but they cannot be larger than 36 inches in diameter and 18 inches in height.  Also, do not bury bonfires when you put them out.

-No excavation for pits is allowed on public beaches.

-Boats and watercrafts are required to stay clear of public beaches.
