SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A Sheboygan man will have a mental examination before his burglary case will continue in court.
42 year old Chou Yang had his preliminary hearing put on hold Wednesday per a request from defense attorney Patricia Adelman. She questioned Yang’s competency following several meetings with him, including one time when he spoke gibberish.
Judge James Bolgert ordered an inpatient exam, and the next court hearing will be July 6 to determine if Yang is mentally able to continue facing a burglary and criminal damage to property charges.
Yang is accused of entering a home in the 300 block of Erie Avenue June 8th to try to steal jewelry. A caretaker for the home noticed him, forcing Yang to flee, before Sheboygan Police caught him a block away. Surveillance video from the home showed Yang using a rock to smash a window in a door to gain entry to the house.
