SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A Sheboygan eighth grader has won an honor from the Wisconsin Troopers’ Association.

This was the 28th year the association held a statewide art and essay contest.  It attracted thousands of entries on the topic of “Moving Wisconsin Forward by Traveling Safely”.

"All the kids within the state of Wisconsin are able to participate within each bracket, according to their grade level," says contest director Jennifer Austin.  "Each grade level is then awarded four winners."

Austin said one of this year’s eighth grade winners came from Sheboygan. Bridget Zenk of Sheboygan Leadership Academy wrote an essay as part of a writing exercise for a class, and her teacher entered it in.

She found out she was a winner back in late March.  "I was kind of freaking out.  I was really excited," says Zenk.

Zenk joined other contest winners in Wisconsin Dells last month for a ceremony, where she received a certificate and $75.
