KOHLER, WI (WHBL/Learfield) - The Kohler Company has won a pair of lawsuits against the Village of Kohler over the way their recreational properties were assessed for local tax purposes.
The firm claims they paid more taxes than they should have for its American Club, the Inn on Woodlake, River Bend, and the Blackwolf Run golf course. The Kohler Company said "business value" should have been deducted from its property valuations, while the village said it cannot separate the business value that way.
One judge ruled that the village must re-assess properties for the 2011 tax year. Another judge said the village must repay the Kohler Company 605-thousand dollars in 2012 taxes.
A third lawsuit regarding 2013 taxes remains pending.
A Kohler Company spokesperson said the company is willing to pay its fair share of taxes.
