SHEBOYGAN COUNTY, WI (WHBL) - Work is being done to set one ordinance for burning in Sheboygan County. Currently every local government in Sheboygan County can set their own burning ordinance.
Town of Sheboygan Falls Fire Chief Bob Kroeplien says this can cause problems for emergency responders called out to wildfires. "We have several fire departments that cover more than one township, and the sheriff’s department covers them all," says Kroeplien.
Work by fire departments countywide has created one county wide ordinance to cover all locations. "We’ve got to get together with the heads of government, and hopefully we can get them on board and move forward," says Kroeplien. "It will just makes things, I think, a lot neater on the responder side."
Ideally, the ordinance will be in place by the start of next year’s burning season.
