Sheboygan water utility warning about frozen laterals

SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The issue of frozen pipes and water laterals has not been as numerous for the Sheboygan Water Utility this winter compared to last year due to the record cold.  However, the past few weeks of arctic air are causing a few headaches to return.

Superintendent Joe Trueblood tells WHBL News the frost has deepened to around four feet in areas where there is no snow cover.  This is causing some water laterals in areas to freeze.

As a result, the utility wants past customers who had a lateral freeze in the past few years to be proactive.  "We sent out a notice to them by phone call just advising that they might want to run a little bit of water for the next few days to get us through this last cold stretch and avoid a water lateral freezing up on them," says Trueblood.

Trueblood says warmer weather should end this problem in the near future.
