SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - Several homeowners on South 15th Street are going to have to eat the damages caused by a water main break last October. The Sheboygan City Council voted 8 to 5 with 2 abstentions last night to deny the claims for damage from the incident which caused sewage backups into their homes. Joel Wood was one of them and appeared before the council last night asking aldermen to reconsider. He said his home sustained about $4000 in damage and his insurance won't pay. But, City Attorney Steve McLean said the city isn’t liable under the law and Alderperson Mary Lynne Donahue agreed. She said it is cruel and in some respects unjust, but it is the law and the city will set a precedent if it pays the claims. She said if the city paid the claims they could end up paying all such claims in the future.
