SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - As the fate for the Sheboygan Armory remains in limbo for a few months, one group of local citizens is hoping to save it.
The Sheboygan Armory Foundation was created in November 2013 when the building would be left vacant by Spaceport Sheboygan. Member Collin Kachel says the group wants to restore the structure as a place for large indoor events. "Take what was done in the past, modifies it, and creates this very intriguing, very interesting future for members of the community," says Kachel. "Give them something to look forward to, something to get excited about."
As for the question of costs for repairing and maintaining the building, Kachel says that can be done by opening the building to the public for various uses. "It’s a no brainer that the money coming in will generate enough revenue to pay the utilities and possibly pay something back to the city, and to reinvest," says Kachel.
The foundation is still considering plans for how they will achieve their goal. The city will act on the Armory’s future sometime after April 15th.
