SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - As the U-S Department of Justice announced Monday it will increase training and data collections to ensure employees do not use any bias in their job, the Sheboygan Police Department has been doing this for the past few years.

Sheboygan Police Chief Chris Domagalski told WHBL News recently they have invested time and money to train its police force how not to use a person’s race, gender, ethnicity, and other similar characteristics as reasons to initiate police actions.  "So they have a good grasp and understanding of what the issues are and how to make sure we have policies in place to limit that," said Domagalski.

Domagalski says this is part of the department’s overall goal to build community trust with the residents they serve.  "So that we understand what’s going on and they understand what we can and can’t do to support them," said Domagalski.

If an officer does break police rules, Domagalski says they will be subject to a review that follows state laws and department policies that is fair and impartial.
