SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The development of the former Boston Store property in downtown Sheboygan could accomplish several goals for this part of the city. While no definitive plan is in place until an official developer is chosen, there are three goals that will be achieved in some way.

City Planning and Development Director Chad Pelishek told the Common Council this week one goal would be a green space to enhance the downtown’s arts culture and food heritage focus.  "This site is a pivotal point essential to the formation of that district and that concept.  The space will allow for cultural events in the heart of the downtown," said Pelishek.  The green space would be used for a weekly concert series by the John Michael Kohler Arts Center, and other activities that need a stage smaller than the one in Fountain Park.

Also a goal is to try to recover some of the tax base lost with the Boston Store building with new buildings that could house businesses and housing.   "There’s the idea of some type of mixed concept development, and under the plan it leaves the opportunity for two mixed used buildings to be built."

The third part of the plan would be to open up New York Avenue to traffic between Eight Avenue and Seventh Avenue.
