SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A rarely used procedural move highlighted the latest Sheboygan Common Council meeting. It was alderperson Jim Bohren, along with Joseph Heidemann and Julie Kath, who used the 'three man hold' procedure to prevent action on extending the end of the Chief Administrative Officer Jim Amodeo appointment one year to 2016. As a result, the matter will be taken up during a special council meeting next week.
The council did approve the demolition of the downtown Boston Store building. "The low bidder feels that they can get in there next week and start tearing this thing down," said council President Don Hammond, "so that we don’t incur a lot of expense in heating the building throughout the winter season." Spielvogel and Sons will demolish the entire structure for $341,900.
Regarding union negotiations, the council approved a tentative agreement with the Sheboygan Professional Police Officers’ Supervisory Association. An agreement with the Sheboygan Professional Police Officers’ Association is still pending.
The council also moved back to committee an ordinance to add a part-time code enforcement officer. Alderwoman Susan Lessard says the matter did not pass during the budget process, but the situation has changed financially. "But now we have extra funds. Not extra, but we have found funds, and I believe it can be financed," said Lessard. No word when the council will take up this matter again.
