SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Sheboygan Area School District taxpayers will pay more towards local public education on next year’s tax bill. The district’s Board of Education approved the $130.5 million budget for the current school year Tuesday night.
The budget is an increase of around one-percent from last year, but the $40.5 million tax levy is up 3.7-percent. Business Manager Mark Boehlke says one reason for the increase is the district has more students, going up 81 full time students when counted by the state with their three year average. Also, the district saw a drop in state aid this year.
All this means the mill rate for taxpayers will increase 48 cents from last school year to 12.18 per thousand equalized property value.
