SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Travis Tramte was found guilty Thursday of reckless homicide in the heroin overdose death of Kathryn Jakimczyk. It took a jury over two hours to make their decision Thursday afternoon after hearing two days of testimony in Sheboygan County Court.
Prosecutors said Tramte supplied Jakimczyk with the heroin that she injected at her North 9th Street apartment in July of 2013 that led to her death. Tramte’s lawyer tried to prove that there was other evidence that disputed this claim, saying Jakimczyk may have died from other drugs she took or the heroin used came from another person, such as her boyfriend, Matais Montemayor.
No word when sentencing will be taking place.
This is the latest in a series of homicide cases connected to drug overdose deaths to be tried in Sheboygan County in the past few years. DA Joe DeCecco says there are around six other similar cases pending in the court system. He pledges to continue to prosecute these cases due to the danger of heroin in the community.
