SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The City of Sheboygan will pay about half the cost of removing asbestos from the former downtown Boston Store building. The Common Council unanimously approved Monday evening spending $83,000 towards this process, sharing costs with the seller of the property.
Council President Don Hammond said it is needed after a second phase of the purchasing process resulted in asbestos being found in parts of the building. He added that as part of the property purchase agreement with the seller, the site must be in a condition where the city deems it safe to proceed with future development.
The money will come from a $250,000 fund allocated by the council for the demolition of the building.
