SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Anyone who has been driving around ACUITY the past few weeks has probably noticed the insurance company's latest attemp at erecting one of the tallest flag poles in the world. This week, it appears construction has reached their 400 foot goal as a airplane warning light is now in place.
The flag pole is designed to hold a flag that will be 60 by 120 feet.
This is the third attempt to build such a flag pole to accomodate such a large flag. The first pole in 2003 was toppled in the wind. The second reenforced pole put up in 2005 was taken down in 2009 after it too began to sway in the wind. The company again made adjustments for the third pole, as it is set in a 10 foot deep foundation of concrete with the base spanning 11 feet.
No word yet when an official ceremony for the flag pole will be held.
