SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Cooper Elementary School’s Student Council members participated in a community service project on May 1 to commemorate Memorial Day. Students worked together to create a banner honoring veterans for their service. A main objective of the project was recognizing that freedom is not truly free. Students briefly learned about the history behind Memorial Day and some of the traditional ways in which it is celebrated. They created a banner to be hung in a local nursing home as a reminder to the veterans, their wives, siblings, children and/or friends, that the service and losses of our military personal is not forgotten or taken for granted.
