SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A Sheboygan man faces a theft charge for receiving a nearly $17,000 grant from the city’s Housing Authority under false pretenses.
Prosecutors say 56 year old Randall Schmidt filled out an application in September of 2011 for a grant the city hands out to landlords to remove lead paint from residences where children under the age of six live.
In June of 2012, an investigation got underway that found the tenant’s name on the application did not live at the residence listed. When they visited the listed residence on the 500 block of North 15th Street, no one there met the age requirement of the grant.
It is believed Schmidt wanted the money to renovate other properties he owns. He now faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.
