SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Thomas Industries Company in Sheboygan was evacuated Wednesday morning due to an unknown strong odor.
Sheboygan Fire Department Battalion Chief Gary Kolberg said they received word Tuesday afternoon of the smell coming from a sewer near the plant’s Illinois Avenue location. The Fire Department, Sheboygan Public Works, the Sheboygan County Haz-Mat team, and Wisconsin Public Service have been conducting tests on what is causing the odor. Elevated readings forced plant workers to be evacuated for their safety.
Kolberg says they still don't know what's causing the odor, but nearby residents are in no harm at this time.
