SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - Candidates seeking election in April still have just over a week to file nomination papers. So far, three people are circulating papers for the office of Sheboygan Mayor, including incumbent Terry Van Akkeren, and challengers Mike Vandersteen and Alderman John Belanger. None have yet filed papers. There are 8 seats up for election on the Sheboygan City Council where 3 incumbents - Dave Van Akkeren, Darryl Carlson, and Joe Heidemann - have filed their papers. Newcomers who have filed nomination papers include Asher Heimerman in the 6th District, where incumbent Bill Wangemann isn’t running, and Billy Thiel in the 5th District, where incumbent Julie Kath isn’t seeking re-election. So far, no one is even circulating papers in the 7th district, where Don Hammond is the incumbent. The deadline is January 3rd.
