SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - Students in North High School’s Transitions class partnered with Kohler Co. to create a one-of-a-kind gift for attendees of a global summit. The idea originated from a Kohler employee, Tony Biddle, to create a unique coffee coaster from pottery cull. Three-by-three inch tile samples made of pottery cull are used to promote the beneficial reuse of the materials from Kohler plants to potential customers. The Transitions class at North High teaches employment skills, including laser engraving, and Biddle reached out to them for assistance on this project. The Transitions class engraved, cleaned, painted and adhered pads to the bottom of 250 coasters. The finished product went over so well, that the students received another order for 600 coasters. “The students are having a great time working together to make the coasters,” said Mary Denning, special education teacher at North High School. “This project has allowed them to develop many job skills, from teamwork to assembly line processes, to high-tech laser engraving.” (Courtesy of Sheboygan Area School District)
